Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage that is used to work on athletes of all levels of training from the weekend warrior to professional sports teams. People who do sports massage can be professional massage therapists or some athletic trainers may also do sports massage if it is allowed in their state licensing.

Sports massage is not a specific technique, but applying whatever type of massage that you know to athletes. It requires extra training in anatomy and physiology as well as working with injuries. A sports massage therapist will need to have an understanding of how the body moves and works during the many sporting events.

Sports Massage can be applied:

  • Pre-Event – Before the actual sports event.
  • Post-Event- After the actual sports event
  • During Training for achieving maximum performance and preventing injuries.
  • To help heal injuries and get athletes back on the road faster.

Rehabilitation Testimonial

“In 2011 I dislocated my shoulder playing rugby. I was keen to get back playing assoon as possible, so I spoke to Richard about training programmes. Richard was able to quickly build a routine for me to follow that built back the strength in my shoulder. In addition Richard takes the time to understand his client’s needs and how to re-build their confidence after injury. I was back playing first team rugby within 8 months of the injury and feeling confident to compete in competitive matches. Richard provided expert advice and training, and I continue to train with him today because he delivers results.” – Neil Ryland
